Metamorphosis Kafka

For this project we had to create a set for the story Metamorphosis by Kafka. I worked in a group of about 15 people, we designed and constructed the lounge and bedroom for the story. My main part in this project was to design and make the bed, I made it from scratch using MDF and ply wood. I also helped to wallpaper the lounge, paint the bedroom walls, age the chairs, make the flats and set up the set.

Piggies puppet show

For this uni project we were given a song and had to create a puppet show for it. I worked in a group of three and the song we were given was 'Piggies' by the Beetles. We related this song to the story of animal farm, which is about the animals going against there human masters and they take over the farm so they can live equally together, but it soon becomes corrupt when some animals get a taste of power and become just like the humans.

I do have a video of the puppet show but unfornaatuly I am having trouble uploading it on to blogger. So for now I have just put pictures up of the puppets I made.

Shadow puppets - These puppets were to show the animals working on the farm in the background. I made these puppets using black card, for the parts which I wanted to move I cut out and pined on to the puppet and I used a long piece of wire to move the puppet. I shone a light trough the screen so that the shadow puppets would show up.

String puppet - This puppet was being controlled by a much bigger puppet in the show, to show how the animals which had gained power were controlling and manipulating the other animals. So the puppet didn't need moving limbs it just needed to roll around like a pig does in mud. I made it using tights which I stuffed with fluff. I made each limb separately which I then sewed onto the body. For the head tho I made it out of polystyrene, glued paper over it and stuck it to the body. I covered the body in glue to stiffen it and then painted the head, I also gave the pig a cigar because this was the part of the story when some of the animals started turning human.

Hand puppet - I also made this puppet out of tights, I stuffed the head with fluff and I made it so that I could put my arm trough the body and the back of the head to make the mouth move. The teeth were make of card and I painted the tongue. I sewed its features such as the nose and eyes and I also sewed some fake eye lashes on to it as this was a female pig. I sewed on the arms and attached a wooden knife and folk to its trotters which were made of wood and painted silver. To controll the arms I attached a wire to each trotter. So I could coltroll its mouth and head movements wth one hand and controll the arms with my other hand. I then painted the pig a light brown colour and sewed on some clothes and jewelry.

Wild west set

I worked in a group of about 30 people to make this set, I helped paint the background and do the wood graining. After the set was done we wore the costumes and used the props we made to create a scene for photo shoot.

Wild west costume

This costume is set in the 18th century.

Wild west props

For this project at university which I am currently studying Creative arts for Theatre and Film we had to make props and our theme was the wild west.

Pig carcass - I made this in a group of 4 people, we carved the shape of the pig out of polystyrene and then glued on two layers of muslin to harden the carcass and stop bits coming off so we could paint it.

Totem pole - In a group we made a totem pole by making one part of the totem pole each. I molded my part out of clay, then I made a cast using player, then I fiber glassed it and painted it.

Tipi - I made this in a group of 3, we cut the tipi cover out of calico material and painted it. We then put together the structure using bamboo, wrapped the tipi cover around the bamboo and secured the front of the tipi together using wooden sticks which we cut using the ban saw and shaped with sanding.

Sheriff badge - I made these using a silicone mould and then filling the silicone mold with resin. I then used graphite powers to give a bronze and silver look and rubbed black paint into the words and cracks.

Winchester rifle - I made this out of MDF, I cut each piece out using the ban saw and shaped it using the sanding machine. I then painted and used graphite to give a metal look on parts of the gun.

Elephant

Here is a picture of an elephant I drew from a photo.

Cake decorating

These are cakes I have made and designed for friends and relatives birthdays.

Business card

Here is a business card I designed using photoshop and illustrator for my dads gardening and DIY company.

Aladdin set box

This is a set box deign I did for the story of Aladdin in college. It shows Aladdin and Jasmine flying in on the magical carpet with the genes lamp. The sky is the backdrop with also a cloud hanging in front of the carpet to show them flying trough the sky.

Alice in wonderland

The picture reads

"Catapillar who are you?
Alice this was not an encouraging opening
for a conversation I ...... I hardly
know sir just at present ...... at least
I know who I was when I woke up this morning
But I think I must have been changed
several times since then"

For this college project I had to choose a text from a story and I chose the conversation between the caterpillar and Alice in the story Alice in Wonderland. I used this text in an advertisement against drug use. The picture shows a silhouette of Alice to repressed her loosing her identity, as since taking drugs she has forgot who she is. The background shows blurred yellow and green colours to show hallucinations wile she is on drugs. The other pictures show a photo of Alice on drugs and a picture of Alice looking back at her old self and not recognising who she is.

I designed this by creating little costumes for the two dolls, giving one dark make up. I photographed the dolls and then used photoshop to edit the images.

Notting hill carnival advertisement

This was an advertisement I designed for notting hill carnival as part of a project at college, were I was studying art and design/graphics. I used an open suitcase with an explosion of colour, shapes and dancers all made out of paper with origami starts hanging above to represent fireworks. The idea of this was to show a person who had got back from e.g a holiday and they opened there suitcase to the explosion of colour dance and music from the exciting carnival they went to.
